Congrats Dave! Thanks so much for sharing these updates on your odyssey. I’m sure it was difficult to will up the effort required to write consistently while at the point of continuous mental and physical exhaustion. Enjoy the rest of your sabbatical!
Thanks Grant! The trick was to find long, tiring climbs during the Tour and then dictate the key points onto my phone during them to distract myself from how much my legs hurt at the time :)
Congratulations on your successful voyage, Dave!! I too enjoyed reading g about your journey and following along.
When your get around to it, it would be great to hear about your post-ride review on how your feet handled the ride and how saddle discomfort was managed and what you'd do differently if doing again or advice you'd give in the area of saddle sores--two of your concerns going into the Divide.
Much respect for your approach to and execution of your successful Tour Divide!!
Thanks Steve! I'm definitely planning a bit of a gear tear-down at some point. Good thought on the lessons learned side too. Saddle sores were an issue throughout - I had one burst around day 3, I think - so treating those was an ongoing priority. I'll definitely include thoughts on that.
What a ride! I followed every post and actually got quite emotional when you touched the fence of the border crossing. So glad Forrest’s family was there to cheer your last few meters. Congrats!
Congrats Dave! And thanks for making the effort with your write up (best I’ve seen), for the detail and your honesty. A huge help in planning an attempt on the TD and I hope loads of people get to read them.
Simply amazing effort. Huge congrats and you must be deservedly so incredibly proud of yourself. Quite the adventure!
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times :)
Congrats Dave! Very exciting for you and quite the accomplishment! Thoroughly enjoyed your trip updates. Enjoy the reunion with your family!
